The Youth Communication Budget at a Glance
Expenses: In recent years, the Youth Communication budget has been around $1.2 million a year. Nearly $800,000 supports salaries and benefits for a dozen staff and consultants, which reflects the labor-intensive nature of the training we provide. The other $400,000 covers rent, printing and delivery of our publications, insurance, supplies, office services, and other expenses.
Income: Over 75% of our income comes from foundations and corporations, government grants, and individual contributions. We earn about $250,000 from subscriptions, royalties, advertising, book sales, and consulting. We get in-kind support from The New York Times (printing), and groups like Tech Soup (software and hardware.)
